February 27, 2008 Well, it looks like Quarterlife debuted to an epic fail. NBC appears to be trying to capitalize on the perceived plight of 20 somethings. Fraught with gen-y stereotypes, too; the overlooked starry-eyed writer/blogger, hipster film school director trying to break into commercials, basement dwelling socially awkward geek, and the sex-crazed struggling actress with emotional baggage.
Maybe I’m just jealous about the explosive popularity of the main character’s video blog. In the first episode, it looks like she spent a small fortune on modding wordpress and SEO to have one of the most popular blogs in the city. Unfortunately it misses the mark in so many areas, I can’t continue to talk about it. In fact, I’ve already said too much!
Status: removed from DVR after 1st episode. Back to Parking Wars!
February 20, 2008 You probably know writer/director Wes Anderson from “The Royal Tannenbaums”, “The Life Aquatic” and “Rushmore”, but you might have missed this movie like I did.
Wes Anderson is my new old favorite. “The Darjeeling Limited” is another fine entry into the Anderson arsenal, with his distorted view of family life, timeless fashion, unconventional romance, and a keen ear to the soundtrack of life. His cinematic style, ripe with his signature tracking shots is what I’ve come to expect … and love.
“We haven’t located us yet.” Brilliant!
Fox Searchlight was nice enough to give me a widget to use. Widget you say? Yea… and its a cool flash widget as well. Oooooh.
Enjoy. BTW: Amara Karan = cute. (Can we agree to that?)
February 18, 2008 “A Million Dollars” by Joel Plaskett an excerpt.
let’s go out, we’ll take no prisoners
lonely love gotta leave it behind
we look like a million dollars
everytime they look at us we’ll blow their minds
let’s get wrecked on rolling rock and stroll down to the sea
i’ll come to my senses there, then you’ll come to me
You can read up about Joel Plasket and his band on wikipedia. I’m just here to say the he’s one of the most prolific singer songwriters I’ve found in the last few years. But in the immortal words of Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton, “You don’t have to take my word for it”.
A few of my favorites: “Happen Now”, “Nowhere with You”, “Face of the Earth”, “Love This Town”, “Absentminded Melody”, and so many more.
